How TMB Gives Back to Our Environment
From the very beginning of The Modern Bride (back when it was Something Green Bridal Boutique), Jess and Donna were determined to create a benefit that gives back to the community in Guelph. As avid nature lovers, all of us at The Modern Bride, understand the importance of expanding and maintaining green space in the Royal City.
For over 9 years, we have partnered with Trees for Guelph, an organization dedicated to increasing the green canopy in Guelph. With each dress sold, we donate one tree to be planted as a part of the annual Trees for Guelph. In 9 years, TMB has donated over 1000 trees. The Mother-Daughter team have also implemented many business eco-friendly practices to ensure the most positive impact of TMB on the environment as possible!
We sat down with Jess and Donna this Earth Day to chat about their partnership with Trees for Guelph and how TMB is involved in eco-friendly business practices!
Why did you decide to support Trees for Guelph?
We love the fact that Guelph puts such a high priority on the environment. The health of the planet has always been very important to us and Trees for Guelph is a way support our local community as well as the global community.
What eco-friendly initiatives aside from Trees for Guelph does TMB engage with?
Our business cards are made for recycled paper and plant based inks. We use only cloth hand towels for our clients in the boutique to save on wasteful paper products. We use glassware to serve our clients refreshments instead of throw away cups. When renovating our space we used all LED bulbs in light fixtures to say on energy and waste. We also ensured that the renovation was completed using proper insulation, where needed, to conserve energy. We have our heating and cooling system set to a schedule so that we are only using energy when we are open and serving clients.
Why do you think it is important for small businesses to be eco-friendly in 2024?
What we do now provides for much better future for generations to come. We have seen what a great job other local small businesses are doing and want to be proactive in making the choices that help, not hurt the planet.
What legacy do you hope TMB leaves in terms of eco-friendly business practices?
Our hope is that by continuing to provide support for the environment in our community, and planting trees that we can all gain a healthy benefit from, we will be part of the positive solution to keeping our earth healthy for everyone
