So, I just got married…what's next?
Congratulations, You’re Married!
You are probably thinking… what do you mean what’s next? Well, there are some key things that you likely haven’t thought of and we are here to help steer you in the right direction!
YOUR DRESS
I know this sounds crazy, but you need to figure out what you want to do with your dress ASAP. Your first step (regardless of what you decide to do with it) is to have it professionally cleaned by someone who specializes in wedding gowns. We typically recommend getting it cleaned a few days after the wedding, but you can push it as far as six weeks if need be. Until then be sure to store it in a dark, dry space. We recommend getting it cleaned at Crown Cleaners in Belmont Village, but you can also explore any dry cleaner who specializes in bridal cleaning.
WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS?
Here are a few examples of what you can do:
Consign (or sell)- You will want to look into consigning or selling your dress ASAP because some stores only take the most recent designs possible! We recommend checking out Sixpence Bridal.

THANK YOU
Get started on your thank you cards as soon as you feel ready! I KNOW these can be very time-consuming and it's best to get started on them while everything is still fresh in your mind. Writing a few thank you notes per day isn’t too much of a burden, but will ensure you don’t fall behind and avoid the feeling of being overwhelmed. Along with a thank you note for your guests, you should be thanking your wedding vendors as well. A great way to thank them is by leaving a public review. These are what build up a small business and will certainly help newly engaged couples who are just beginning to search for the right vendors. SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCE!
THE PAPER WORK
It typically takes a few weeks to receive your marriage license. If you are changing your last name you should begin the process sooner than later. A few key pieces of ID you will need to change are: Health card, Drivers license, Passport, Credit cards, Banking info, Social media etc. This can seem very overwhelming but hey, you got through the wedding planning this is nothing you can’t handle!
CAKE
Freeze your cake! Trust me, you’ll thank us later. Saving the top tier of your wedding cake is a fun thing to do after getting married. On your first anniversary, you and your partner can enjoy this together while reminiscing over the last year of marriage and all of your wedding day memories. Also, who doesn’t love a good reason to eat cake?
PHOTOS
You are probably checking your email every 5 minutes hoping for a sneak peek of your beautiful day! We don’t blame you, we are too! Remember, it typically takes six to eight weeks for your photographer to send over all of your edited photos. During this time it is important to think about what you want to do with them. If you are thinking of doing an album, we recommend chatting with your photographer about options or checking out DIY options like Photobooks Canada.
TIME TOGETHER
Last but not least, spend some time together. This is the most obvious but it is so important to spend time together as a newly married couple! If you’re someone who loves having something plan and to look forward to there’s no harm in planning your next romantic getaway as a couple, even if it just a “Pinterest dream vacation” board for now.
